Jose Hernandez, 19, killed in wrong-way crash along FM 4
HOOD CO., TX – A wrong-way collision along a major highway in Hood County killed one teen and injured two others this weekend, reports NBC DFW 5.
The two-vehicle accident occurred Friday night along FM 4, or Lipan Highway, which runs east to west between Granbury and Lipan. Officials have not provided a mile marker or cross street for the crash.
Police say that the driver of a pickup truck carrying three Mineral Wells teens lost control and veered onto the opposite side of the highway. At that time, the pickup truck collided head-on with another vehicle.
One person in the pickup, identified as 19-year-old Jose Hernandez, died at the scene.
Medics transported two other teens from the vehicle to an area hospital with serious injuries. Authorities identified them as Korbin Williams and George Velasquez.
All three teens were nearing graduation from Mineral Wells High School.
It’s unclear if anyone if the second vehicle sustained injuries in the collision.
A full investigation is underway.
