James Guthrie, 51, struck on bicycle in Rockport, killed
ROCKPORT, TX – A 51-year-old cyclist died last week when a hit-and-run driver struck him along the highway in Rockport, reports KIITV 3 News.
The incident occurred Friday on Business 35 just north of TX-188, which is just east of the Majestic Oak Resort and south of Estes.
Police say that a southbound SUV struck the southbound bicycle along the highway. The impact of the collision ejected the cyclist, who sustained fatal injuries after landing in a ditch.
Authorities identified the victim as 51-year-old James Guthrie.
Witnesses allege that the driver of the SUV stopped to remove items from the victim’s pockets before fleeing the scene.
Officials are looking for a 2018-2021 BMW X4 with front-end damage in connection to the fatal accident.
The investigation is ongoing.
