Cara Chitwood fatally hurt in Clay Co. auto-pedestrian crash

CLAY CO., TX – A Henrietta woman died late last week when a vehicle struck her along the highway in west-Central Clay County, reports Texoma’s Homepage.

Emergency crews responded to the westbound side of US-287 near North Butler Road on Friday. This is between Wichita Falls and Jolly and about 110 miles northwest of Fort Worth.

Police say that a westbound Dodge Ram struck a woman who was standing alongside her disabled Honda Accord. The vehicle was stopped partly in the shoulder and partly in the left lane of traffic.

Authorities declared the pedestrian deceased at the scene, identifying her as 42-year-old Cara Chitwood.

Officials haven’t yet shared any details about the driver of the pickup truck, and it’s unclear if anyone will face charges.

A full investigation is underway.
