Daniel Perez, Krystal Calvillo killed in Houston auto-bicycle crash

HOUSTON, TX – A Houston couple sustained fatal injuries while biking Tuesday when they were struck by vehicles along a major roadway in northwest Houston, reports KHOU 11.

The accident happened shortly before 11 p.m. at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Drive and Fallbrook Drive between Forestwood and Fallbrook.

Police say that a southbound 2020 Toyota RAV4 struck a westbound cyclist, later identified as Daniel Perez, in the intersection. A second vehicle then hit Perez’s girlfriend, Krystal Calvillo, when she entered the intersection to help Perez.

The driver of the Toyota stopped to render aid and speak with authorities. The driver of the second vehicle fled the scene without stopping to render aid.

Both Perez and Calvillo, neither of whom were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, succumbed to their injuries after transport to area hospitals.

A full investigation is underway. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident can contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office with information and tips.
