Leon Co. crash claims Matthew Sovick, Christopher Gorman
LEON CO., TX – Two men sustained fatal injuries Wednesday in a two-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck in northwest Leon County, reports KBTX 3.
The accident happened shortly before 6 a.m. at the intersection of FM39 and County Road 344, which is just west of Jewett and east of Newby. This is about 65 miles southeast of Waco.
The investigation thus far indicates that a northbound 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe became wedged underneath a northbound 1999 Peterbilt tractor-trailer after rear-ending the 18-wheeler.
Both occupants of the Hyundai succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the accident. Authorities identified the driver as 44-year-old Matthew Sovick and the passenger as 49-year-old Christopher Gorman.
No other injuries have been reported in connection to the accident, and it’s not yet clear what may have caused the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
