Maria Lopez struck, killed near Alameda Ave, Tangier Pl
EL PASO, TX – El Paso Police are looking for the woman they say left the scene after hitting and fatally injuring a pedestrian last month on the east side.
According to KTSM 9, the hit-and-run accident occurred on Saturday, July 19th, near the intersection of Alameda Avenue and Tangier Place, which is just north of Ascarate Park.
Police say that a 77-year-old woman was crossing Alameda when a westbound SUV hit her. The driver of the SUV did not stop to render aid or to speak with officials.
The pedestrian, identified as Maria Lopez, succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the crash.
Authorities have since located the vehicle allegedly involved in the crash, and they have identified the suspect driver as 28-year-old Melanie Christine Cuellar.
Cuellar faces charges that include collision involving death and leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
