Mercedes rear-ends Subaru near Blanco, killing Cynthia Schade

BLANCO CO., TX – Two women died, and at least two others were injured Sunday afternoon in a multi-vehicle collision in southern Blanco County, reports CBS Austin.

Just before 2:45 p.m., emergency crews responded to a crash involving three vehicles on Ranch Road 165, which runs west to east between Blanco and Henly.

Police say that the driver of a Mercedes SUV was intoxicated when she failed to control her speed and rear-ended a Subaru Outlander. This initial collision pushed the Subaru into the path of a Hyundai Santa Fe, causing a second crash.

The two occupants of the Subaru succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Authorities identified them as Cynthia Schade and Donna Stevens.

Medics transported at least two people from the Hyundai to an area hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

The driver of the Mercedes fled the scene of the crash but was apprehended soon after by police. Charges against the driver include intoxication manslaughter, possession of marijuana, and tampering with evidence.

The investigation is ongoing.
