Houston PD investigates fatal bike crash on Watonga Blvd
HOUSTON, TX – An elderly man sustained fatal injuries Tuesday morning in a bicycle crash in northwest Houston, reports the Houston Police Department.
The accident occurred around 10:15 a.m. along Watonga Boulevard between West 43rd Street and the Bend at Oak Forest Apartments.
Police say that the driver of a black GMC Denali collided with the cyclist while exiting a private drive onto Watonga Boulevard. The bicyclist, officials say, had the right of way at the time of the crash.
The 70-year-old victim died after transport to an area hospital. Authorities have not yet released his identity to the public.
The driver of the Denali stopped to render aid and to speak with police.
No charges have been filed at this time. It’s unclear if the cyclist was wearing a safety helmet at the time of the wreck.
A full investigation is underway.
