Nasryth Funes, 1 other killed in fiery collision on US-190

COPPERAS COVE, TX – Two people died, and several others sustained injuries last Wednesday in a multi-vehicle collision on the south side of Copperas Cove, reports KCENTV 6.

The accident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. on US-190 between FM 116 and Old Copperas Cove Road, which is just south of Rattlesnake Point.

Police say that a reckless driver ultimately caused a fiery chain-reaction crash involving six vehicles when they attempted to pass slower traffic by entering the wrong side of the highway. The first vehicle was struck by an oncoming car.

Both the wrong-way driver and a passenger from the at-fault vehicle were killed at the scene. Authorities identified the victims as 21-year-old Nasryth Antonio Funes and 27-year-old Eisleer Jose Castillo Gomez.

It’s unclear how many additional people were hurt in the crash. At least two additional people required hospitalization, with one being transported by air ambulance.

Officials closed Highway 190 in the area of the accident while crews worked at the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
