Hector Montero claimed in wrong-way crash on N Big Spring St
MIDLAND, TX – A 27-year-old man sustained fatal injuries Friday in a wrong-way collision in north-central Midland County, reports mrt.
The accident occurred just before 2 a.m. along North Big Spring Road between Loop 250 and Edwards Street on the north side of Midland.
Police say that a northbound 2024 GMC pickup truck was speeding when it entered the southbound side of the road and collided head on with a southbound 2007 Mercury Milan. The impact of the collision caused the GMC to overturn.
The driver of the Mercury Milan, identified as Hector Julian Zavala Montero, died at the scene.
The wrong-way driver, whose name has not yet been released to the public, required hospitalization for serious injuries. Authorities say he was likely intoxicated at the time of the crash. Charges are expected.
Officials closed North Big Spring Road for several hours Friday while crews gathered evidence and worked to clear the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
