DUI crash on I-27 in Hale Co. seriously injures Aidan Poole

HALE CO., TX – A 19-year-old man sustained serious injuries earlier this month in a two-vehicle crash caused by a drunk driver in south-central Hale County, reports First Alert 7.

The collision occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 7th, along I-27 between Hale Center and Lubbock. Officials haven’t yet provided a mile marker or cross street for the accident.

The investigation thus far indicates that 44-year-old Thomas Jason Rich was intoxicated and speeding when he rear-ended a car on the interstate. The impact of the crash caused the gas tank to explode, igniting the vehicle.

The driver of the car that was rear-ended went to the hospital with critical burns. Authorities identified the victim as Texas Tech honors student Aidan Poole.

Police arrested Rich on a charge of intoxication assault.

The investigation is ongoing.
