Mirage sideswipes dump truck in Jewett, killing Summer Martelli

JEWETT, TX – A 65-year-old Marquez woman died Monday in a two-vehicle collision involving a dump truck in northwest Leon County, reports KBTX 3.

Officials responded to the crash shortly after 4 p.m. on FM 39 just north of US-79, or Main Street, on the far-south side of Jewett, which is just over an hour southeast of Waco.

Police say that for unknown reasons, the driver of a northbound Mitsubishi Mirage crossed into oncoming traffic and sideswiped a southbound dump truck. The impact of the crash caused the Mirage to overturn into a ditch along FM 39.

The wrong-way driver, since identified as Summer Martelli, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The dump truck driver did not sustain injuries in the crash.

A full investigation is underway.
