Austin Sanchez IDed as victim in collision near Barnhart
IRION CO., TX – A 30-year-old man sustained fatal injuries last Thursday in a wrong-way crash along the highway just west of Barnhart, reports San Angelo Live.
The incident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. along US-67, approximately 53 miles west of San Angelo.
The preliminary investigation indicates that an eastbound Ford F-250 entered the westbound side of the highway and collided head on with a westbound Ford F-150.
The driver of the F-150, identified as Austin Ray Sanchez of San Angelo, died at the scene.
Medics transported the wrong-way driver, identified as 38-year-old Kristen Suzanne Upchurch, to an area hospital with non-critical injuries.
It’s not yet clear what caused Upchurch to veer onto the wrong side of US-67.
No charges have been announced thus far.
The investigation is ongoing.
