Edge and Explorer collide near Kempner, killing Malena Mick

LAMPASAS CO., TX – A woman died, and two teens sustained serious injuries Sunday when two SUVs collided along the highway in southeast Lampasas County, reports KCENTV 6.

Shortly before 10 a.m., emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash along US-190 just west of Kempner. This is approximately 69 miles northwest of Austin.

Police say that the driver of a Ford Edge initiated a U-turn from the westbound shoulder of the highway, entering the path of a westbound Ford Explorer.

The driver of the Edge, identified as 51-year-old Malena Mick, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Medics airlifted two teen passengers from Mick’s vehicle to a hospital in Temple with serious injuries.

The two occupants of the Explorer also required hospitalization with serious injuries.
