Hit-and-run driver strikes, kills Jimmie Jones in Smithville

SMITHVILLE, TX – A hit-and-run crash that happened last Saturday in a Bastrop County parking lot claimed the life of a male pedestrian.

According to CBS Austin, emergency crews responded shortly after 7:30 p.m. to the scene of a suspected auto-pedestrian crash at Super Donuts in Smithville. This is in the 1400 block of Loop 230.

Police say that the driver involved in the crash left the scene without stopping to render aid or to speak with authorities.

The pedestrian, since identified as Jimmie Lee Jones died after transport to an Austin hospital.

Authorities ultimately located the suspect and his vehicle in Pflugerville. They arrested the suspect, since identified as Ricky James Stevens of Smithville, on a manslaughter charge.

A full investigation is underway.
