Train, pickup collide in Monahans, killing Navareo Rodriguez

MONAHANS, TX – A 26-year-old man was killed Sunday when his vehicle was struck by a train on the northeast side of Monahans, reports NewsWest 9.

The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. in the area of East Sealy Avenue and South Franklin Avenue. This is just southeast of Alberta Allen Park.

The initial investigation indicates that a 1999 Dodge pickup truck drove past the lowered signal gates at the railroad crossing and stopped on the tracks. A collision ensued, and the driver of the Dodge died at the scene. Authorities identified him as Navareo Rodriguez.

There were no other passengers in the Dodge at the time of the crash, and no other injuries have been referenced so far.

The investigation is ongoing.
