Jonhatan Rodriguez claimed in rear-end crash near Mopac, Steck

AUSTIN, TX – A 19-year-old man died Tuesday in a two-vehicle collision along the freeway in north Austin, reports KVUE.

Shortly after 9 a.m., emergency crews responded to the southbound side of the North Mopac Expressway, or Loop 1, between Steck Avenue and Spicewood Springs Road in the Balcones Terrace area.

While police haven’t commented on the cause of the crash, they say that one vehicle crashed into the rear of another vehicle on the expressway.

One of the drivers, identified as Jonhatan Rodriguez, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

It’s unclear if the other driver sustained injuries in the accident.

Officials closed the Loop 1 southbound in the area of the crash while crews gathered evidence and worked to clear the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
