Alberto Montoya IDed as victim in solo crash on FM 186 in Linn

LINN, TX – An elderly man died Tuesday in a fiery single-vehicle collision along FM 186 in Hidalgo County, reports Valley Central.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to a major accident just east of US-281 in the city of Linn, which is about 21 miles north of Edinburg.

The early investigation indicates that a truck driver lost control of his 18-wheeler, causing it to leave the roadway and hit both a pole and a tree. Upon impact, the semi-truck caught fire, killing the driver at the scene.

Authorities identified the victim as 74-year-old Alberto Montoya of Brownsville.

Officials closed FM 186 in the area of the crash for just under ten hours while crews gathered evidence and worked to clear the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
