Jermaine James Simon & Sharnett Sharite Thomas ID’d as victims in crash along Gateway Park

DALLAS, TX – The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed it was Jermaine James Simon and Sharnett Sharite Thomas who were killed in a Monday night crash outside Gateway Park.

This is an update from our reporting on Tuesday.

Officials told The Houston Chronicle that 53-year-old Simon and 60-year-old Thomas died from their blunt force injuries at 9:05 p.m., about a few minutes after the crash happened.

Preliminary details reveal that the single-vehicle collision happened on the 2400th block of North Jim Miller Road. A driver of a Toyota SUV was going south on Jim Miller when, for reasons unclear, they drifted off the road and crashed into a tree.

Simon, Thomas, and two others were trapped inside the vehicle, warranting a response from Dallas Fire-Rescue.

Fire crews were able to perform the extrication. While Simon and Thomas died, the two other occupants survived and were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

One surviving occupant remains in critical condition, and the other in stable condition. Dallas Police have not identified them at this time, and did not specify who was behind the wheel of the Toyota SUV.

A full investigation remains underway.
