Mohammad Obeidat killed in crash caused by impaired driver, Dallas PD says
DALLAS, TX – A tow truck driver, later identified as Mohammad Obeidat, was killed in a crash caused by an impaired driver, Dallas Police said.
Police told Fox4News that the incident unfolded around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday Interstate 635 near Preston Road. Obeidat was in the process of putting a disabled vehicle onto his tow truck when an impaired driver crashed into his vehicle.
The impact of that collision caused the tow truck to overturn. Cole Moscatel and his family witnessed the crash and rushed over to perform CPR on Obeidat prior to the first responders’ arrival. Despite their best efforts, Obeidat died from his injuries.
The impaired driver, identified as 53-year-old Robert Watson, admitted to police that he had “1/1 cans of beer” before driving his vehicle. He was driving from West Texas to Garland after visiting a friend, according to an arrest affidavit.
Police noted that Watson displayed the classic signs of an impaired driver: bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and alcohol on his breath. They arrested him and booked him into the Dallas County Jail, where he is being held on a $100,000 bond.
Watson is being charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Watson also has a track record of DWI convictions, having been arrested on DWI charges in 1994, 2007, 2013, and 2015, according to Dallas County Court Records.
