Man, 27, faces 20-year prison sentence after deadly 2025 crash near Terrell

NEAR TERRELL, TX – A 27-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Thursday, June 25, in connection with a deadly crash he caused on June 28, 2025, The Dallas Morning News said.

This comes as an update in relation to our previous reporting when the 27-year-old man, Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, was expected to plead guilty for his role in the fatal collision that killed five people.

In the Kaufman County courtroom on Thursday, Gonzalez-Companioni did, in fact, waive his right to a jury trial and pleaded guilty to five counts of manslaughter and four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. (Court personnel confirmed the weapon was not a firearm.)

Judge Casey Blair deemed Gonzalez-Companioni’s prison sentence as concurrent, meaning he will serve time for all of his crimes, and Kaufman County court records also reveal that he will receive a 362-day jail credit.

The Back Story

The crash occurred before 3 p.m. on Interstate 20 near Terrell. Gonzalez-Companioni had fallen asleep while driving an 18-wheeler and crashed into a Ford F-150 pickup truck carrying a family home from Fort Worth.

Gonzalez-Companioni then crashed into two other big rigs and at least three other vehicles.

The deceased from the Ford pickup truck were later identified as: 45-year-old Krishaun McKellar, 52-year-old Zabar McKellar, 79-year-old Billy McKellar, and 16-year-old Kason McKellar.

A fifth person, not riding in the vehicle with the McKellars, also died. She was identified as 49-year-old Nicole Gregory from Dallas.
