Inmate taken to hospital after multi-vehicle collision involving Dallas PD car

DALLAS, TX – An inmate was taken to the hospital as a precaution following a multi-vehicle collision that involved a Dallas Police cruiser on Monday.

The crash occurred after 12 a.m. on northbound Interstate 45 near Overton Road, according to Fox4News. A driver of a big rig slowed down due to an initial three-vehicle crash. Behind them followed one vehicle and a Dallas Police cruiser that were unable to avoid a collision. The Dallas Police cruiser was pushed forward and rammed into a guardrail before being struck by a box truck.

The police officers inside the cruiser were uninjured. It’s unclear whether the inmate they were transporting was injured, but the inmate was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

An inmate inside the police cruiser was then taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Authorities closed the area for three hours to allow crews to clean up debris from the crash and to restore safe road conditions.

All lanes have since reopened.
