UPDATE: 5-year-old Leo Bryant Steward released from hospital after Pleasant Grove domestic disturbance-turned-crash
DALLAS, TX – A 5-year-old boy, who was left in critical condition after a domestic disturbance-turned-crash in Pleasant Grove in August, has been released from the hospital this week.
Fox4News broke the news on Thursday, Sept. 17, saying the boy, Leo Bryant Steward, spent several weeks undergoing physical therapy before going back home this week.
The Backstory
The incident happened around 4:45 p.m. on Aug. 11 in the 10300 block of Elam Road in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood. Ronnie Alcaraz, 54, was involved in a domestic dispute and fled the scene of the incident, leading officers on a chase.
The pursuit ended when Alcaraz T-boned a Chevrolet Equinox SUV driven by Leo’s mother, Markietta Bryant.
The impact of the crash left Leo unresponsive. EMS rushed him to a children’s hospital in Dallas and later transported him to a children’s hospital in Plano. While Leo was spared from broken bones, doctors treated him for swelling and bleeding in his brain.
Markietta was uninjured.
What happened to Alcaraz?
Alcaraz was charged with “evading, causing serious bodily harm, aggravated assault — family violence, and interference with an emergency call,” and taken to the Dallas County Jail, where he is being held on a $55,000 bond.
