Police share further details regarding fatal semi crash in Ellis Co.

ENNIS, TX – Officials have released additional information regarding a fiery 18-wheeler crash that happened Wednesday along the interstate in Ennis.

According to DFW Scanner, while police initially stated that two people died in the crash, they have since clarified that only one person lost his life in the collision.

The incident happened at 10:39 a.m. on the northbound side of I-45 near FM 1183, which is near Alma.

The investigation indicates that the driver of a northbound semi-truck failed to slow for stopped traffic while changing lanes on the interstate and rear-ended another 18-wheeler. The collision caused the first truck to overturn and catch fire.

The 56-year-old driver of the first semi-truck died at the scene of the accident. Authorities say he was from Houston.

The 51-year-old driver of the second truck sustained only minor injuries.

A full investigation is underway.
