2-vehicle crash involving semi on Loop 335 in Amarillo kills 1

AMARILLO, TX – An 83-year-old man sustained fatal injuries Friday in a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck on the eastern outskirts of Amarillo.

According to abc 7 News, the incident happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. on the westbound side of Loop 335. Officials haven’t provided a cross street for the wreck.

Police say that a westbound  2007 Dodge Ram 3500 struck the rear of a westbound 2016 Volvo 18-wheeler. The latter vehicle was stopped in the inside lane, waiting to turn left.

Medics transported the driver of the pickup truck, identified as Antonio Avila-Mendoza, to an area hospital. Avila-Mendoza died the next day from injuries sustained in the crash.

The 63-year-old driver of the semi-truck did not require hospitalization.

A full investigation is underway.
