James Smith, 40, killed in wrong-way crash near Claude
ARMSTRONG CO., TX – An Amarillo man died, and three people were hurt Sunday night in a two-vehicle collision along the highway in north-central Armstrong County, reports abc 7 News.
The accident happened around 11 p.m. along TX-207 just north of Claude. This is about 30 miles southeast of Amarillo.
Police say that for unknown reasons, the driver of a 2002 Acura RDX entered the wrong side of the highway and collided head-on with a Hyundai Santa Fe, causing the latter vehicle to overturn.
The crash impact threw the driver of the Acura from his vehicle, and he died at the scene. Authorities identified the victim as 40-year-old James Smith.
Both the 24-year-old driver of the Hyundai and an infant passenger went to the hospital with serious injuries.
Medics transported an adult passenger to the hospital with non-critical injuries.
A full investigation is underway.
