DUI driver hits, injures 6 pedestrians at Hopkins and LBJ
SAN MARCOS, TX – Multiple people sustained injuries Thursday night when a drunk driver struck them at a busy intersection in downtown San Marcos, reports Fox 7 Austin.
The pedestrian crash occurred around 1 a.m. at East Hopkins Street and North LBJ Drive, which is northeast of San Marcos Athletic Club and west of Veramendi Park.
Police say that 24-year-old Enrique Gutierrez-Field was intoxicated when he struck six pedestrians in the crosswalk of the intersection with his truck.
All six victims were hospitalized for their injuries. While some of the injuries were serious, all of the patients are expected to recover.
Gutierrez-Field was arrested on multiple charges, including third-degree felony intoxication assault with a vehicle, unlawful carrying of a weapon, and second-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Motorists likely faced delays in the area of Hopkins and North LBJ while emergency teams attended to the victims, gathered evidence, and worked to clear the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
