Joseph Caraballo struck, killed by SUV on US-54 at Fred Wilson

EL PASO, TX – A 14-year-old boy sustained fatal injuries Tuesday afternoon in an auto-pedestrian crash along the highway in northeast El Paso, reports KVIA 7.

Emergency crews responded to the southbound side of US-54 at Fred Wilson Avenue shortly before 4:30 p.m. This is just northwest of Fort Bliss.

Police say that a southbound Toyota 4-Runner struck a teen boy in a lane of travel. The teen was crossing the highway on foot when the accident occurred.

The victim, who has since been identified as Joseph Nathaniel Caraballo, died after transport to an area hospital. Caraballo was a student in the El Paso Independent School District.

The driver involved in the accident stopped to render aid and to speak with police.

No charges have been filed at this time.

A full investigation is underway.
