Car strikes, kills Kevin Lopez-Vazquez on I-10 at Geronimo

EL PASO, TX – A 21-year-old pedestrian died Friday when a vehicle struck him along the interstate in northeast El Paso, reports KFOX 14.

Shortly before 10 p.m., emergency teams were called to an auto-pedestrian accident on I-10 westbound at Geronimo Drive, which is just southwest of El Paso International Airport.

El Paso Police haven’t shared any details about the crash except to say that it involved a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta. It’s unclear if the victim was walking along the shoulder or in a lane of travel when the incident occurred.

Authorities identified the victim as Kevin Lopez-Vazquez.

There’s no word yet regarding charges for the driver.

Officials closed the westbound side of I-10 near Geronimo until Saturday morning.

A full investigation is underway.
