Wrong-way crash on US-67 near Barnhart claims David Poindexter

BARNHART, TX – A 52-year-old man sustained fatal injuries last Friday in a wrong-way collision along the highway in southwest Irion County, reports yahoo!news.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash in the area of US-67 and North 1st Street near the city of Barnhart, which is about 53 miles southwest of San Angelo.

Police say that for unknown reasons, a westbound Mitsubishi Raider entered the eastbound side of US-67 and collided head on with an eastbound Chevy Silverado.

The driver of the Chevy, identified as David Brent Poindexter of San Angelo, died at the scene.

Medics transported the wrong-way driver, identified as 52-year-old Christopher Michael Wheeler of Bourne, to an area hospital with serious injuries.

There’s no word yet regarding charges.
