18-wheeler rear-ends semi in Temple, claiming Leonel Benavides Jr

TEMPLE, TX – A Laredo man died Thursday in a rear-end collision involving two semi-trucks along the interstate in central Bell County.

According to KCENTV 6, emergency crews responded to a fatal accident shortly before 5 a.m. on I-35 near mile marker 297 and the Southwest H K Dodgen Loop in Temple.

The investigation indicates that the driver of an 18-wheeler failed to decelerate for slowed traffic and crashed into the rear of a second semi-truck.

Officials attributed the slowed traffic to another collision that happened earlier near mile marker 298.

Authorities declared 41-year-old Leonel Benavides Jr deceased at the scene.

No other injuries have been referenced in connection to the accident.
