Elizabeth Paukstis fatally struck on Loop 256 in Palestine

PALESTINE, TX – A civil rights attorney from Washington D.C. sustained fatal injuries Wednesday in an auto-pedestrian crash in Anderson County, reports CBS 19.

The accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. near the intersection of South Loop 256 and South Sycamore Street in the east Texas city of Palestine, about 113 miles southeast of Dallas.

Police say that victim was crossing Loop 256 when a westbound UPS hit her in the intersection. It appears that the driver of the UPS truck may have had the right of way when the crash occurred.

The pedestrian, who has since been identified as Elizabeth Paukstis, died after transport to an area hospital.

The driver of the UPS truck stopped to render aid and to speak with authorities.

No charges have been announced thus far, as the investigation continues.
