Speeding was factor in crash that killed SMU graduates Julian Harris & Madison Duren
DALLAS, TX – According to an arrest affidavit, speeding was a major factor in a crash that killed Southern Methodist University graduates Julian Harris and Madison “Madi” Duren.
This is an update in connection with our previous reporting. Fox4News said the arrest affidavit said that 22-year-old Aldrea Rogers was traveling 82 mph in a 35 mph zone on the 9200th block of Garland Road when she crashed her Hyundai Elantra into a Toyota Prius on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Harris, who was driving a Toyota Prius, attempted to turn left onto Garland Road when he was struck by Rogers’ Hyundai.
Harris, 23, died from his injuries at the scene, while his passenger, 22-year-old Duren, his girlfriend, was rushed to a hospital, where she later died.
A third vehicle was involved in the collision, but fled the scene.
Rogers also had two children with her inside her vehicle, the arrest affidavit states.
Rogers was ultimately charged with two counts of manslaughter, a second-degree felony, and is being held at the Dallas County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
SMU will be holding a memorial service for Harris and Duren at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.
