Semi crashes into site of auto fire, killing West firefighter

WEST, TX – A West firefighter died, and two police officers were injured Tuesday after an 18-wheeler crashed into the scene of a vehicle fire, reports DFW Scanner.

The incident happened around 12:57 p.m. on the northbound side of I-35 near mile marker 354, which is near West Broadway Street.

Police say that the firefighter and police officers were parked along the inside lane while responding to a vehicle fire. The 18-wheeler neglected to heed traffic control signals and crashed into the closed area where the firefighter and officers were standing.

One of the cars at the scene struck the firefighter, who died after transport to Baylor Scott and White.

Medics transported the police officers to a hospital in Waco. The extent of their injuries is unclear.

A full investigation is underway.
