Tow truck strikes, kills 67-year-old man in NE Dallas parking lot

DALLAS, TX – A 67-year-old man died on Saturday after a tow truck hauling away his vehicle struck him in a northeast Dallas parking lot, reports My Texas Daily.

The incident happened early in the morning on Shoreview Road, near the intersection with Thurgood Lane, which is north of Norbuck Park.

The investigation indicates that the victim, identified as James Smith, attempted to climb onto the driver’s side of his vehicle while it was being towed. The man fell to the ground, and the tow truck ran over him. Smith died after transport to a local hospital.

The driver of the tow truck, identified as 25-year-old Roberto Padilla, fled the scene of the accident. Authorities apprehended Padilla later that day and charged him with manslaughter.

The investigation is ongoing.
