Police officer hurt, driver detained in Wilmer collision on I-45

WILMER, TX – A driver was detained following a collision involving a police cruiser, a sedan, and a semi along the interstate in Wilmer, reports Fox 4 KDFW.

The incident happened around midnight Saturday on I-45 at East Pleasant Run Road, which is on the north end of the city.

The investigation thus far indicates that a Toyota struck a police cruiser when the latter vehicle was parked along the interstate for a traffic stop.

The initial collision pushed the cruiser into traffic, where it was hit by an 18-wheeler.

Medics transported the officer driving the cruiser to the hospital with non-critical injuries.

Authorities are still determining whether the driver of the Toyota was impaired at the time of the accident.

The investigation is ongoing.
