School bus strikes, kills pedestrian at FM 493 and Hernandez in the Valley

DONNA, TX – A 72-year-old man died last Wednesday when a school bus struck him at an intersection in southeast Hidalgo County, reports Valley Central.

The accident happened at 6:50 a.m. at the intersection of FM 493 and Hernandez Road in the city of Donna, which is about 24 miles west of Harlingen in the Valley.

Police say the victim was walking along the side of Hernandez, crossing FM 493 from east to west when a Weslasco ISD school bus hit him. Authorities identified the victim as Feliberto Romero Ramirez.

No students were present on the school bus at the time of the accident, and no other injuries have been reported in connection to the crash.

Officials have not yet disclosed the cause of the accident. It’s unclear if the victim was crossing in a designated crosswalk when the bus hit him.
