1 killed in fiery crash involving sedan, semi on US-281 near Thousand Oaks

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A 24-year-old man died Sunday in a two-vehicle crash involving a semi along the highway on the north side of San Antonio, reports KSAT.

The accident happened around 3:15 a.m. on the southbound side of US-281 near Thousand Oaks Drive, which is just west of AIRTOPIA Adventure Park.

Police say that the driver of a southbound silver BMW was speeding when he rear-ended an 18-wheeler on the highway. The collision caused the sedan to catch fire, and the driver died at the scene.

Authorities identified the victim as Trent Waldrip.

The truck driver was not hurt in the collision.

Drivers likely experienced significant delays along US-281 in the area of the crash while crews worked to put out the fire and clear the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
