Stephen Jones, 62, killed, 1 hurt in Cherokee Co. solo crash

CHEROKEE CO., TX – A Rusk man died Wednesday evening in a single-vehicle accident along a rural roadway in central Cherokee County, reports CBS 19.

The crash occurred shortly before 5:30 along County Road 1513 between Jacksonville and Rusk. This is about 2 hours southeast of Dallas.

Police say that a driver was speeding when he lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway, and crashed into a ditch.

The driver, identified as 62-year-old Stephen Jones, succumbed to his injuries after transport to an area hospital.

Medics transported one passenger to the hospital with non-critical injuries.

A full investigation is underway.
