Jose Salvador, Francisco Ramirez killed in Ector Co. train crash

PENWELL, TX – Two men died Wednesday morning in a collision involving a Union Pacific train in south-central Ector County, reports NewsWest 9.

The accident happened around 9 a.m. at the intersection of Avenue G and the railroad crossing on the far northeast side of Penwell. This is in the Midland-Odessa area.

Police say that an eastbound Union Pacific train struck a northbound 2025 Ford F-350 when the driver of the pickup truck failed to stop at the intersection. The crash impact caused the pickup to ignite.

Both occupants of the pickup truck succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the crash. Authorities identified them as 30-year-old Jose Antonio Salvador and 19-year-old Francisco Ramirez.

Officials have not referenced any other injuries linked to crash, and they say the train did not derail.

A full investigation is underway.
