Diana Chagah Garcia, 21, killed in auto-ped crash in El Paso
EL PASO, TX – A woman died, and two others were hurt Monday in a two-vehicle crash that involved several pedestrians on a busy street in central El Paso, reports KTSM 9.
The accident happened just before 11 p.m. on North Mesa Street near Cliff Drive. This is southwest of El Paso Country Day School and southeast of Las Palmas Medical Center.
Police say that a southbound sedan struck an Audi while changing lanes, pushing the latter vehicle onto the sidewalk. The Audi then struck three people that were walking on the sidewalk along North Mesa Street.
The unidentified sedan left the scene without stopping to render aid.
Medics transported all three pedestrians — a 21-year-old, a 15-year-old, and a 19-year-old — to an area hospital. The 21-year-old, later identified as Diana Chagah Garcia, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. It’s unclear how seriously the other two pedestrians were injured.
Authorities arrested the driver of the Audi for marijuana possession. They continue to search for the sedan that caused the wreck.
A full investigation is underway. Anyone with information or tips to share about the accident can contact the El Paso Police Department.
