Tonya Beall, 41, and 8-year-old died in Jasper Co. crash

JASPER CO., TX – Two people died, and one person sustained serious injuries earlier this month in a wrong-way crash in south-central Jasper County.

According to KFDM 6, the accident happened on Friday, April 18th, around 8:15 p.m. on the southbound side of US-96 near County Road 791, which is between Buna and Evadale and about 30 miles northeast of Beaumont.

Police say that a northbound 2023 Hyundai Elantra entered the southbound side of the highway and collided head-on with a southbound 2024 Kia Sportage.

An 8-year-old child from the Kia died at the scene, as did the wrong-way driver. Authorities identified the wrong-way driver as 41-year-old Tonya Beall of Willis.

Medics transported the driver of the Kia, identified as 29-year-old Anais Peralta, to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Officials closed the southbound side of US-96 while emergency crews worked at the scene. Motorists likely faced significant delays.

A full investigation is underway.
