HPD investigates fatal scooter crash near Ennis and Ruth
HOUSTON, TX – An elderly man sustained fatal injuries late Wednesday morning when a vehicle struck his scooter in south-central Houston, reports abc 13.
The incident happened just before noon on Ennis Street between Blodgett and Rosewood Streets, which is east of TX-288 and on the northwest side of Texas Southern University.
Police say the operator of an eastbound electric scooter ignored a stop sign and entered the path of a red Mazda. The scooter and the car collided, throwing the scooter rider into the roadway.
The 70-year-old scooter operator died after transport to an area hospital. Authorities have not yet released his identity to the public.
The driver of the Mazda did not sustain injuries and demonstrated no signs of intoxication at the time of the collision.
A full investigation is underway.
