Maria Loya IDed as victim in head-on crash near Tornillo
EL PASO CO., TX – Two women died, and one person sustained injuries Saturday afternoon in a wrong-way collision in southeast El Paso County, reports KTSM 9.
The accident occurred around 2 p.m. at the intersection of O T Smith Road and FM 3380, which is west of I-10 and just northeast of the city of Tornillo.
Police haven’t yet specified the cause of the crash, which they say involved a Nissan Titan and a Mazda CX-5. The two vehicles collided head-on, causing fatal injuries for the driver and passenger in the Mazda.
Authorities identified the victims as Maria Escudero Loya, 51, and Mayrin Perez, 21. Loya, they say, succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while Perez died after transport to an area hospital.
Medics transported the unidentified driver of the Nissan to the hospital with injuries of unknown severity.
A full investigation is underway.
