Alexander Gonzalo IDed as victim in Austin scooter crash

AUSTIN, TX – A fatality has been announced in connection to an auto-pedestrian crash that happened over the weekend in downtown Austin.

According to CBS Austin, a vehicle struck a man on his scooter just before 1:30 a.m. at West 5th Street and Rio Grande Street. This is just northwest of Republic Square.

Police haven’t yet disclosed the circumstances of the collision; it’s unclear if the victim was scooting in a designated crosswalk or in the roadway when the crash occurred.

The 22-year-old scooter operator, who has since been identified as Alexander William Gonzalo, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday at an area hospital.

The driver involved in the crash showed no signs of intoxication and stopped to render aid.

No charges have been filed at this time.

A full investigation is underway.
