Mary Perez struck, killed in school pick-up line in Wichita Falls

WICHITA FALLS, TX – An elderly woman died Tuesday in an auto-pedestrian accident that happened in the pick-up line of a Wichita County elementary school.

The crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m. in front of Crockett Elementary School on Arthur Street in Wichita Falls. This is north of US-277 and west of I-44.

Police say that the grandmother of a student became pinned between two Hyundai SUVs when she attempted to cross the street during pickup. The driver of the rear SUV accidentally accelerated, causing it to strike both Perez and the SUV ahead of it.

The victim, who has since been identified as 70-year-old Mary Perez, died after transport to an area hospital.

The two drivers involved in the crash sustained minor injuries; it’s unclear if they required hospitalization.

A full investigation is underway.
