Semi collides with pickup at FM 866, University, killing Jorge Zapata

ODESSA, TX – A multi-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler in central Ector County killed one person and injured another on Monday, reports Odessa American.

The accident occurred around 6 a.m. at the intersection of FM 866 and West University Boulevard, between I-20 and TX-302 in West Odessa.

Police say that a southbound semi-truck collided with a GMC Sierra when the semi made a left turn on University. This initial crash caused the GMC Sierra to impact with a Ford F-150 at the intersection.

The driver of the GMC Sierra, identified as Jorge Zapata, died at the scene.

Medics transported a passenger from the Sierra to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Neither the truck driver nor the driver of the F-150 required hospitalization.

A full investigation is underway.
