Oscar Cantu fatally struck on Padre Island Hwy in Brownsville

BROWNSVILLE, TX – A 49-year-old man died Wednesday when a vehicle struck him along the highway in south-central Cameron County, reports Fox Rio Grande Valley.

The accident occurred in the evening on the Padre Island Highway between Zena Drive and Calvin Street in northeast Brownsville, which is around 26 miles southeast of Harlingen.

Police say that Oscar Cantu was attempting to cross TX-48 when a vehicle hit him. Cantu died in the hospital the following morning.

The driver involved in the crash stopped to render aid and to speak with authorities.

No charges have been filed thus far.

A full investigation is underway.
