Forklift accident at McAllen Produce Terminal kills 25-year-old worker

MCALLEN, TX – A 25-year-old forklift operator died last Tuesday after a workplace accident on the south side of McAllen, reports KRGV 5. 

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. at Mid Valley Ice in the McAllen Produce Terminal Market. This is located just east of South Texas College’s Technology Campus at the intersection of TX-115, or South 23rd Street, and West Military Highway.

Police say the Gabriel Lopez was backing a forklift onto the loading dock when it dropped from the platform. Lopez attempted to exit the forklift but became trapped beneath it and sustained fatal injuries.

No other workers were injured in the incident.
