Head-on collision along Hwy 19 near US-80 kills 2 adults

VAN ZANDT CO., TX – Two women died, and three children were hurt in a wrong-way crash in north-central Van Zandt County at the end of last month, reports KETK.

The accident happened on Saturday, September 28th, before 8 p.m. on Highway 19 just south of US-80. This is east of Edgewood and west of Fruitvale.

Police say that a northbound 2014 Ford Focus entered the southbound lanes of Highway 19 and collided head-on with a southbound 2019 Dodge Journey.

Both drivers died at the scene. Authorities identified them as Karen Carlisle, 63, and Sara Stoehr, 24.

Medics transported three minors from the Dodge to an area hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

A full investigation is underway to determine what might have caused Carlisle to cross over to the wrong side of the highway.
